Importing Data

Importing Bank Statements

How to import CSV transaction files from your bank into Rise Budget

Overview

Rise Budget imports your transactions as CSV files, so your data stays on your computer. This guide walks you through importing one or more bank statements quickly and accurately.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • A CSV export of your bank or credit card transactions
  • The date range you want to import
  • A rough idea of the categories you want to use

Import Steps

Follow these steps to import your transactions:

  1. Open Rise Budget and go to the Import CSV page
  2. Click 'Select File' and choose your bank's CSV file
  3. Match each CSV column to the correct Rise Budget field
  4. Choose the date format used by your bank
  5. Review the preview and click 'Import All Transactions'

Column Mapping

Rise Budget needs three key pieces of information:

  • Date — the transaction date
  • Description — the payee or transaction note
  • Amount — the transaction amount. Credits and debits can be in one column or split into two.

Multiple Accounts

Import each account separately. You can use labels or categories to tell them apart later, or keep a separate budget file for each account.

Troubleshooting

If something looks wrong, check these common issues:

  • Dates appear scrambled — try a different date format
  • Amounts have the wrong sign — check whether debits are positive or negative in your CSV
  • Some rows are skipped — make sure the CSV does not have blank rows between transactions
