Understanding household members in Rise Budget
What are members?
A member — short for household member — is a person in your household whose income and expenses are tracked in your budget. This could be a partner, child, roommate, or anyone else whose transactions you want to include.
Why track members?
Tracking members helps you understand your household finances more clearly:
- See who earned and spent what across categories
- Split shared costs fairly between people
- Plan budgets that account for each person's contribution
Adding members
Add members before you import or categorise transactions:
- Open Settings and go to the Members tab
- Add each household member by name
- Save your changes
Assigning members to transactions
Once members are set up, you can assign a member to any transaction during CSV import or by editing the transaction afterwards.
Tips
- You only need to track members if it is useful for your household
- A transaction can be left unassigned if it does not belong to a specific person
- Use member filters on the Transactions and Budget pages to focus on one person
